An agreement between Kraken Sonar Systems Inc. and Tritech International Limited holds potential for the subsea industry.
The deal is a strategic one, building upon existing technologies from Kraken. According to the agreement, Tritech is to manufacture, sell and support the AquaTrak Correlation Velocity Log (CVL), a signal processing technology from Kraken. Under Tritech’s name, the CVL will gain access to an international network.

“We have been in this business for nearly 25 years and therefore have an existing route-to-market as well as an established manufacturing and support infrastructure,” explained Scott McLay, Sales Director, Tritech. “Having identified the market requirement for a velocity log that can achieve high accuracy, particularly at low velocity, we are confident that the Tritech AquaTrak™ will provide increased accuracy and higher precision for underwater navigation.”
The CVL was developed using Kraken’s advanced signal processing algorithms. The Tritech AquaTrak boasts a longer navigation range and superior accuracy than conventional technologies. Because of its flexible design, the AquaTrak can operate as a standalone configuration or be integrated into a navigation system.
While the agreement is multi-year, the first CVL shipments are slated for Q4/2015.
Cracking into the Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUV) market will give Kraken access to both ROV and AUV technologies. With the market poised to reach US$5 billion by 2019, there is a wealth of possibility waiting.
