Canada’s leader in drones as a service (Daas) is reaching out to the youth of Canada’s North.
Every year, ING Robotic Aviation supports local charities across Canada’s Arctic. The focus of 2015 will be Actua, Canada’s largest STEM outreach organization. The project in question is the Northern Outreach Program, a program that teaches youth aged 7-12 the basics of STEM through educational modules.
The program will run throughout the Northwest Territories, Yukon Territory, Nunavut, Northern Québec and Newfoundland and Labrador. Hundreds of school workshops and summer camps will receive drone education through exciting and engaging initiatives.
One such initiative was the “Game of Drones” program day. ING Robotic Aviation donated HIL simulators to students, allowing the young learners to fly their own survey missions within a helicopter flight simulator.
To show students the functions post processing and software-generated maps, ING also provided digital 2D and 3D models and image mosaics from real Arctic missions.
So far, instructor feedback has been increasingly positive.
“We are very happy to support Actua with this excellent initiative,” states ING Robotic Aviation’s CEO, Mr. Ian Glenn. “I and my team are personally gratified by the opportunity to touch and perhaps inspire over 900 age seven to twelve-year-old kids across Canada’s Artic this summer.”
