Membership of the House of Commons Standing Committee on National Defence was announced yesterday.

Thornhill MP Peter Kent, who was Minister of the Environment until this summer’s cabinet shuffle, will chair the committee for the new session. Jack Harris, the NDP defence critic, and Joyce Murray, the Liberal defence critic, will serve as vice chairs. Members include Conservatives James Bezan, Cheryl Gallant, Ted Opitz, Rick Norlock, Brian Storseth and John Williamson, and New Democrats Jean-François Larose, Élaine Michaud and Tarik Brahmi.

Only Opitz served in the Canadian Forces, retiring as a Lieutenant-Colonel. Norlock served in the Ontario Provincial Police and Larose has worked in correctional services.
