Boeing’s recent investments underscore its dedication to Canada’s aerospace sector, particularly in British Columbia. At the Abbotsford International Airshow on August 8, 2025, the aerospace giant revealed a significant boost in its Industrial and Technological Benefits (ITB) investments, amounting to $345 million CAD. This investment follows the Canadian government’s selection of Boeing’s P-8A Poseidon aircraft to meet its long-range Multi-Mission Aircraft needs, further solidifying Boeing’s ongoing relationship with Canada’s aerospace and defence industry.
Key initiatives over the past year highlight Boeing’s proactive approach in supporting both local and national aerospace ventures. Among these are:
- $61 million CAD directed towards British Columbia’s aerospace sector, reinforcing local enterprises such as Boeing Vancouver and COTA Aviation. This funding supports the expansion of the province’s aerospace capabilities, benefiting the regional industry ecosystem.
- $17.48 million CAD allocated to sustainable aviation fuel projects, including $7.48 million for a groundbreaking Dimensional Energy project in Richmond, B.C. This initiative transforms industrial CO2 emissions into synthetic aviation fuel, positioning Canada at the forefront of sustainable aviation efforts.
- $240 million CAD in Québec, with investments fostering innovation in the aerospace sector through collaborations with key players like Wisk Aero, Héroux-Devtek, and the Aerospace Development Centre in the newly established Québec Espace Aéro Innovation Zone. These investments fuel technological advancements and innovative breakthroughs.
- $17 million CAD aimed at Indigenous education through a partnership with the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT). This funding supports the expansion of the Saskatchewan Aviation Learning Centre, addressing the global shortage of skilled Aircraft Maintenance Engineers.
- $10.3 million CAD invested in Solace Power, a Newfoundland-based company specializing in wireless power, sensing, and data technologies for high-growth industries, including aerospace, telecom, and automotive. This investment nurtures innovation within the local tech sector.
“Boeing’s ITB investments in Canada reflect our commitment to fostering innovation and supporting local communities,” said Al Meinzinger, President of Boeing Canada. “With 106 years of history in Canada and 500 suppliers spanning every province, we are proud to partner with Canadian organizations and invest in initiatives that will have a lasting impact on the aerospace industry and the communities we serve.”
Boeing’s commitment to these initiatives is part of its broader history of successful ITB programs in Canada, having completed over $15.5 billion CAD in ITB projects over the past four decades. These partnerships have not only bolstered Boeing’s Canadian operations but have also contributed significantly to the development of Canada’s aerospace industry, driving job creation and economic growth nationwide.
“Boeing’s $13 million CAD investment under the P-8 ITB program has been transformative for COTA Aviation,” said Kyle Kusznieryk, CEO of BC-based COTA Aviation. “With their support, we’ve been able to strategically acquire advanced manufacturing equipment that expands both our capacity and technical capabilities. This has directly enabled us to take on new aerospace and defence production programs and launch a recruitment campaign to support our continued growth.”
The selection of the P-8A as Canada’s Multi-Mission Aircraft has had a ripple effect on the country’s economy. Currently, 81 Boeing suppliers across Canada are involved in the production of the P-8A, with each of the 170+ aircraft in global operation containing over $11 million CAD worth of Canadian-made content. To date, Boeing has awarded over $2 billion CAD in P-8 contracts to Canadian companies.
“Boeing’s ITB investments are advancing Canada’s position as a hub for cutting-edge innovation and a leader in the global aerospace sector,” said the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions. “These strategic investments will drive industry growth while contributing to economic development and creating high-paying jobs in communities across the country.”
According to a study by Ottawa’s Doyletech Corporation, the P-8A ITB Program is projected to support approximately 3,000 jobs and contribute $358 million annually to the Canadian economy over the next decade. This collaboration continues to deepen Boeing’s partnership with Canadian industries and promises to create new opportunities for innovation, collaboration, and sustained economic growth across the country.
