ATCO Frontec is Mission Ready
Canada’s renewed investment in national defence and its commitment to meeting NATO spending targets marks a shift in how we protect our sovereignty and ensure military readiness. With the Arctic at the centre of the 2024 defence policy, Our North, Strong and Free (ONSAF), this funding paves the way for transformative infrastructure projects across the North. For ATCO Frontec, it’s a mission we’re uniquely equipped to support.
The Arctic has emerged as a strategic theatre, where sustained military presence depends on robust infrastructure and reliable logistics. From radar systems and airfields to fuel depots and operational hubs, the North demands resilient, scalable solutions, and partners who know how to deliver them.

A Northern Legacy
ATCO Frontec has been operating in the North for over four decades, with a footprint spanning from Inuvik to Iqaluit, Goose Bay to Resolute Bay. We currently provide O&M services at CAF’s Forward Operating Locations, and our joint venture, ARCTEC Alaska, supports the Alaska Radar System. We’ve built and maintained critical infrastructure for defence and civilian clients, including radar installations, RCAF hangars, fuel logistics, mining operations, and remote camps. We also provide specialized services for fire protection systems, which are critical to safeguarding infrastructure.
Our partnerships with Indigenous communities across Canada and the Inuit Land Claims Areas are essential to our approach. ATCO has over 60 agreements in place, and we ensure our projects are inclusive, sustainable, and locally empowered, aligning with the federal Indigenous procurement mandate.

We were the first Canadian contractor to operate NORAD’s North Warning System (NWS) in 1987. Today, through Nasittuq Corporation, our partnership with the Pan Arctic Inuit Logistics Corporation, we continue to manage the defence system. More than 20% of our full-time workforce identifies as Inuit, reinforcing our commitment to Indigenous employment and community development.
Mission Assurance in Harsh Conditions
In-service support (ISS) in the North is more than maintenance—it’s mission assurance. Our teams operate year-round in extreme conditions, where timelines are dictated by weather, sea ice, and complex supply chains. Our ISS capabilities are proven and adaptable. With our extensive Northern presence, ATCO Frontec offers prime contractors a more efficient alternative to southern-based support.
Supporting NORAD Modernization – and Beyond
As NORAD modernization accelerates, ATCO Frontec is well positioned to participate in projects such as Over-the-Horizon Radar (OTHR), Northern Operational Support Hubs (NOSH), Operational Training Infrastructure Enterprise Modernization (OTIEM), and Domestic Arctic Mobility Enhancement (DAME). We also bring value to the Northern Basing initiative through our construction expertise across airfields, commercial and residential, municipal infrastructure and roads, fuel and power generation systems.

We’re currently delivering a Polar OTHR project with the Inuvialuit Development Corporation and D-TA Systems for Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC).
The Royal Canadian Navy’s need for a viable Arctic logistics port is growing. As Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ships expand their operations the lack of a suitable port becomes a strategic vulnerability. Locations like Resolute Bay, Grays Bay, and Milne Inlet offer potential.
ATCO Frontec is uniquely positioned to support these efforts. Our Northern footprint, Indigenous partnerships, military deployments at home and abroad, and ISS capabilities make us an ideal collaborator for Prime contractors and government agencies alike. We understand the complexities of Arctic operations and bring a track record of delivering results in environments where others hesitate.
As Canada prioritizes its defence investments, Northern infrastructure offers a high impact, fast-track opportunity. It strengthens sovereignty, supports military readiness, and unlocks economic potential in underdeveloped regions. ATCO Frontec is proud to be part of this mission—and we’re ready to do more.
