Voyageur Aviation, a Chorus Aviation subsidiary, has signed a purchase agreement with Airbus Helicopters for the U030 Flexrotor uncrewed aerial system, marking the first sale of the drone into Canada
Why it matters: This gives Canada its first operator of a long-endurance tactical drone built for exactly the kind of terrain Canada has a lot of: remote areas, coastlines, and the Arctic.
The platform: Flexrotor is a Group 2 tactical VTOL drone designed for long-endurance ISR and multi-mission work from land or sea, built to handle harsh conditions.
What it’s for: Border and land security surveillance, environmental monitoring, search and rescue support, and maritime and Arctic operations, on both the civilian and defence side.
The bigger play: The purchase builds on a recent MOU between the two companies and expands Voyageur’s push into the UAS space beyond its existing ISR work. Voyageur and Airbus are also exploring further collaboration on contracted UAS services for commercial and government clients in Canada.
