Cassidian, part of Munich-based conglomerate EADS, has received a $75.5 million contract to replace Royal Canadian Air Force airfields with new area surveillance radar (ASR) and secondary surveillance radar (SSR) systems.
The current radar systems, which support air traffic management, are reaching the end of their estimated life expectancy. The replacement project, which will take place over the next three to four years, involves the installation of seven new ASR/SSR systems at 3 Wing Bagotville, 4 Wing Cold Lake, 5 Wing Goose Bay, 8 Wing Trenton, Ontario (one at an operational site and a second at a technical training site for the Aerospace and Telecommunications Engineering Support Squadron), 14 Wing Greenwood, and 19 Wing Comox. The government’s Industrial and Regional Benefits policy will apply to the contract.
