BMT Canada Ltd. has been awarded a service contract valued at $77.8 million to provide engineering, logistics, management, and support services to the Royal Canadian Navy’s (RCN) fleet for five years. The contract will support over 260 jobs during this time with two five year option renewals.
According to a news release, this is one of the first contracts to be awarded through the improved contract approval process, resulting in accelerated implementation. This new process will help improve the way services are acquired for the Canadian Armed Forces.
“This support contract increases our flexibility to provide essential services to our Royal Canadian Navy fleet, increasing its flexibility to fulfill its missions and deploy on short notice,” said Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of National Defence.
The contract will support the RCN’s in cases where the Department of National Defence is unable to perform all the work in-house on an as-required basis.
Karen McCrimmon, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness who made the announcement on behalf of the defence minister, said that “multiple local communities that will benefit from this long-term investment.”
This contract was competitively awarded to BMT Canada Ltd.
