Quebec-based Bronswerk Group has clinched two important contracts from Irving Shipbuilding Inc., collectively valued at over $100 million. These contracts mark significant strides forward in the ongoing march of Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), aimed at bolstering the country’s naval capabilities while injecting economic vitality into local communities.
Bronswerk Group’s involvement in the NSS spans a decade, during which it played a pivotal role in outfitting the Arctic Offshore Patrol Ship (AOPS) vessels with top-of-the-line marine-grade HVAC systems. Now, their proven expertise is set to grace the Canadian Surface Combatant (CSC) ships, ensuring optimal comfort and safety for future crew members. These cutting-edge vessels, numbering 15 in total, are poised to replace the aging Halifax-class frigates, solidifying Canada’s naval prowess for decades to come.
Under the terms of the new contracts, Bronswerk will supply a range of Canadian-made HVAC equipment tailored specifically for the CSC fleet. This includes specialized Air Handling Units and Air Filtration Units, crucial for maintaining pristine air quality during mission deployments. Additionally, Bronswerk will deliver turnkey solutions in refrigeration machinery for Cold Provision, essential for preserving supplies and sustaining operational readiness.
Beyond the immediate technological contributions, these contracts spell good news for regional economies. Bronswerk’s operations in Montreal and Halifax are poised to create up to 20 new jobs, spanning procurement, design, and manufacturing roles. This injection of employment opportunities underscores the tangible benefits of the NSS, transforming it from a mere policy initiative into a catalyst for growth and prosperity.

Projections suggest that between 2013 and 2025, the AOPS and CSC programs will inject over $11.8 billion into Canada’s GDP, with a substantial portion allocated to labor income. Notably, Bronswerk’s contributions to the AOPS program have garnered international acclaim, positioning the company as a global leader in marine HVAC-R solutions.
