The Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) is continuing its collaboration with OVA, renewing a $1.1 million contract to enhance leadership training through cutting-edge virtual reality (VR) technology. The contract, supporting HMCS Venture—the unit responsible for RCN leadership development—will fund the ongoing creation of immersive VR training scenarios powered by OVA’s StellarX platform to refine the Naval Warfare Officer (NWO) curriculum.

By incorporating conversational AI, the training modules will adapt dynamically to individual learners, providing a more personalized and responsive educational experience. Beyond scenario development, OVA will also deliver training, technical support, and consulting services to ensure smooth classroom integration.

“Conversational AI is a powerful addition to OVA’s expanding toolset. With this feature, learners in StellarX scenarios can engage in dynamic, interactive conversations where the responses adapt in real time to their questions, needs, or curiosities,” explains Tim Purdy, Project Manager.

StellarX, an AI-enabled VR training tool, is designed to modernize naval education by offering a cost-effective and efficient alternative to traditional ship-based instruction. The simulated environments enable personnel to practice critical procedures without the logistical hurdles of accessing operational vessels or the expenses tied to fuel, maintenance, and transportation. Additionally, the platform ensures consistent, high-quality training both onshore and remotely, effectively bridging the gap between theoretical learning and hands-on application.

Through this initiative, OVA aims to enhance knowledge retention, scalability, and accessibility in naval training. The VR scenarios provide a controlled yet flexible environment for trainees to hone their skills, reinforcing key competencies while reducing resource demands.

This renewed partnership builds on the RCN’s previous experience with StellarX, which has already proven its value in making naval training more efficient and accessible.
