Babcock Canada (Babcock), a renowned leader in submarine support, has entered into a Technical Cooperation Agreement with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd (HD HHI) to collaborate on the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project (CPSP).

“As a world leader in submarine sustainment, this agreement enables Babcock to build on our longstanding relationship with HD HHI and combine both organizations’ extensive experience on the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project,” said John Howie, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Babcock.

The CPSP was established by the Canadian Department of National Defence to explore procurement possibilities for the next generation of submarines in Canada. Through this Technical Cooperation Agreement, both prominent marine organizations will exchange their respective shipbuilding and submarine maintenance capabilities to support the CPSP.

Babcock possesses extensive global expertise in the maintenance, alteration, and extension of active submarines, providing support to the Navies of Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia. HD HHI will utilize its exceptional construction capabilities, while Babcock will contribute its specialized knowledge in providing support and maintenance for Canada’s Victoria Class submarines, a role it has fulfilled since 2008.

At the International Maritime and Defence Exhibition (MADEX) in Busan, South Korea, John Howie, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at Babcock, and Young-seuk Han, Vice Chairman & CEO of HD HHI, jointly signed the agreement.

“Through close collaboration between leading companies in Canada and South Korea in shipbuilding and defence industry, we will propose the optimal submarine to the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project, equipped with the latest technology in both Canada and South Korea,” expressed Young-seuk Han, Vice Chairman & CEO, HD HHI.
