Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Canadian Coast Guard will receive three new offshore fisheries science vessel (OFSV) built by Seaspan’s Vancouver Shipyards. These vessels will function as the primary offshore fisheries science platforms for Fisheries and Oceans Canada to carry out science research missions.

The first OFSV, CCGS Sir John Franklin, was delivered to the Canadian Coast Guard on June 27, 2019, and the second, CCGS Capt. Jacques Cartier, was delivered on December 10, 2019. The construction of the third OFSV began in February 2017 and is expected to be delivered in the summer of 2020.
