Weekly News – Historic WWI trenches uncovered, SAR operations off the chopping block

On this episode of the Vanguard Podcast, we find out about the discovery of long forgotten trenches at the Canadian Forces Base in Borden, Ontario, which soldiers actually used to train for the Battle of Vimy Ridge, back in 1917.

John Jones, Publisher of Vanguard, interviews Tony Battista, chief executive officer of the Conference of Defence Associations (CDA) Institute, to find out more about this historic find and the planned celebrations for the 99th anniversary of Battle of Vimy Ridge where 3,598 Canadians perished and more than 7,000 others were wounded.

Also, Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan steps back from an earlier announcement and assures Canadians that the government has no intentions of privatising the military’s search and rescue operations.

And, Navy ships will be getting new remote weapon stations thanks to a recently signed $36 million contract with Raytheon Canada.
