Second Navy man charged with sexual assault

Canadian Forces National Investigation Service laid two charges under the National Defence Act against Master Seaman Daniel Cooper of Naval Fleet School (Atlantic) at Canadian Forces Base Halifax.

The charges relate to an alleged sexual assault that took place while the accused was deployed as a member of HMCS Athabaskan in November 2015. The alleged victim is also a member of the Canadian Armed Forces.

“The Canadian Forces National Investigation Service investigates all allegations of sexual assault in a thorough and impartial manner to help ensure a respectful, healthy professional environment for all members,” said Lieutenant-Colonel Francis Bolduc, Commanding Officer, Canadian Forces National Investigation Service. ”These charges reflect our ongoing commitment to support victims and defend against sexual misconduct in the Canadian Armed Forces.

Master Seaman Cooper faces the following charges:

Cooper is the second Navy personnel to be charged with sexual assault this week.

On Monday, the CFNIS announced that it has laid a charge under the National Defence Act against Sergeant Kevin MacIntyre of the Military Police Unit at Canadian Forces Base Halifax.

The charge relates to an alleged sexual assault that took place in Glasgow, Scotland, in September 2015, while the accused was participating in an international exercise.

The alleged victim is also a member of the Canadian Armed Forces.

Sergeant Kevin MacIntyre faces one count of Sexual Assault under section 271 of the Criminal Code of Canada, punishable under section 130 of the National Defence Act.
