Global Spatial Technology Solutions (GSTS) is advancing its position in the maritime intelligence space, leveraging targeted federal support to expand its operations and bring its flagship platform, OCIANA®, further into global markets.

Backed by two repayable contributions from the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) under the Regional Development and Innovation Infrastructure (RDII) program, the Dartmouth-based company is executing a dual-track growth strategy—expanding its physical and human capital while accelerating the commercialization of its AI-driven technology.

One stream of funding is focused on facility expansion and workforce development, enabling GSTS to address critical skills gaps, scale its product development capacity, and pursue emerging opportunities in the defence sector. The second is dedicated to advancing OCIANA®, the company’s maritime vessel-management platform designed to support defence, security, and supply chain operations.

“These projects help move GSTS forward at an important stage in our growth,” said Richard Kolacz, CEO of GSTS. “The support from ACOA is enabling us to expand our capabilities, strengthen our team, and accelerate the commercialization of OCIANA® to meet growing market demand in defence, maritime security, and supply chain visibility.”

At the core of GSTS’ strategy is OCIANA®, a platform that integrates satellite and sensor data with advanced artificial intelligence to deliver enhanced maritime domain awareness. The system enables faster, more informed decision-making across mission-critical environments—an increasingly vital capability as global maritime activity grows more complex.

Already fully operational, OCIANA® is supporting intelligence requirements for Canada, NATO members, and other Five Eyes nations. Its utility extends beyond defence, with adoption across ports, shipping companies, and pilotage authorities seeking to improve operational efficiency and reduce risk in commercial maritime environments.

One of the ACOA-supported initiatives is also tied to an Ocean Supercluster project, underscoring the broader innovation ecosystem supporting GSTS’ technology development and deployment. This alignment reflects a growing recognition of maritime intelligence as a strategic capability—not only for national security, but for resilient and efficient global supply chains.

Together, the investments position GSTS to scale more rapidly, strengthen its role within Canada’s defence and innovation landscape, and deliver advanced maritime intelligence solutions to a widening global customer base.
