OSI Maritime Systems awarded contract to test Collision Avoidance Decision Aid (CADA) by Royal Canadian Navy

OSI Maritime Systems (OSI) has announced that it has been awarded a contract by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) to test the Integrated Collision Avoidance Decision Aid, or CADA, at the Royal Canadian Navy’s Naval Training Development Centre Pacific. OSI is a leading provider of integrated naval navigation and tactical solutions.

“CADA represents both OSI’s commitment to continuous innovation and the invaluable support that the RCN has provided over the years. OSI’s leadership in navigation solutions is defined by innovation embedded in our culture, but equally important is the Canadian Government and the RCN’s support helping a Canadian company develop and showcase Canadian technology worldwide,” commented Ken Kirkpatrick, OSI’s President and CEO.

The Collision Avoidance System (CADA) is an innovative technology that assists command and bridge teams in assessing risks of potential collisions, avoiding them, and providing advice on avoidance.

CADA uses artificial intelligence to analyze surrounding traffic, prioritize which contacts are at risk, and present this information to the user in an easily understood format. The AI examines every contact’s movement, characteristics, and proximity with reference to the International Regulations for the Prevention of Collision at Sea (COLREGS).

“As ship routes become more congested, there has been a succession of ship collisions, both involving military and commercial vessels, that have been very costly. OSI is proud of working with the Royal Canadian Navy to test CADA and explore its potential as an important aid in reducing accidents on the sea,” concluded Jim Davison, VP, Business Development of OSI.

CADA will be fully integrated into OSI’s WECDIS product ECPINS (Electronic Chart Precise Integrated Navigation System), following the end of successful trials.
