In a strategic move set to bolster the Canadian Coast Guard’s fleet, Gastops has secured a pivotal contract with Seaspan’s Vancouver Shipyards. Announced on June 11, 2024, this partnership underscores Gastops’ standing as a global frontrunner in intelligent condition monitoring solutions.
Renowned for its specialized services in propulsion system integration, Gastops has long served the needs of naval forces, coast guards, shipyards, and marine control system companies worldwide. The company’s expertise in dynamic simulations plays a crucial role in validating propulsion machinery choices, refining control algorithms, assessing machinery performance, and supporting the overall design process of marine propulsion systems.
With this new contract, Gastops will apply its advanced capabilities in dynamic simulations of marine propulsion and electrical systems to the Canadian Coast Guard’s Multi-Purpose Vessel (MPV) Project. This task involves conducting a thorough Dynamic Response Analysis (DRA) to fine-tune and enhance the performance and efficiency of the MPV’s propulsion machinery.
The DRA will encompass a detailed assessment of the Electric Propulsion System, focusing on the verification of control algorithms, performance evaluation of propulsion machinery, and the design optimization of the electric propulsion system. By employing a dynamic simulation model of the vessel, Gastops will be able to analyze the propulsion and integrated electrical systems across a variety of expected maneuvers.
Shaun Horning, President, and CEO of Gastops Ltd. expressed excitement about the contract: “We are honored to collaborate with Seaspan and to contribute our 35 plus years of shipbuilding experience to the renewal of Canada’s fleet of non-combatant ships through the National Shipbuilding Strategy. Gastops is committed to delivering cutting-edge solutions that enhance vessel performance and reduce risk in the ship build process. We look forward to contributing to the success of the Multi-Purpose Vessel Project.”
This partnership not only signifies a significant step forward for the Canadian Coast Guard’s fleet modernization but also reinforces Gastops’ reputation for delivering state-of-the-art maritime solutions.
“Seaspan is pleased to be awarding this contract to Gastops as we continue developing the design of the first flight of the CCG’s new fleet of MPVs. The analysis provided by Gastops will be integral to ensuring the performance and longevity of the ships’ Electrical Propulsion System,” said David Belton, Senior Program Director, Multi-Purpose Vessels at Seaspan Shipyards.
