Lockheed Martin Canada recently selected L3Harris Technologies to provide the Integrated Communications System for the Royal Canadian Navy’s (RCN) Canadian Surface Combatant (CSC) project. This initiative is designed to enhance operational effectiveness and maritime security.

The CSC program, led by Irving Shipbuilding Inc., along with Lockheed Martin Canada and a consortium of partners, stands as a testament to innovation and rejuvenation in Canada’s shipbuilding industry. Under the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), Irving Shipbuilding spearheads construction efforts while Lockheed Martin Canada oversees design, working closely with L3Harris to integrate advanced systems within Canada.

“This award underscores L3Harris’ steadfast partnership with Lockheed Martin Canada and validates our reputation for delivering dependable solutions,” said Anthony Nigara, President, Maritime, L3Harris. “Our Integrated Communications System is a testament to our commitment to advancing technology and innovation, ensuring unparalleled reliability, effectiveness and seamless connectivity crucial for modern naval operations.”

This contract marks a significant achievement for Canada’s defense sector, heralding prospects for market growth and international export potential. The first three vessels out of a planned 15 are expected to be delivered starting in 2027, indicating promising advancements on the horizon.

A key feature of L3Harris’ Integrated Communications System is its promise of reliable and efficient communication for RCN vessels, enhancing maritime safety, operational efficacy, and mission success. This underscores the crucial role L3Harris plays in supporting Canada’s maritime security and national interests.

“Contracting with L3Harris to provide the Integrated Communications System demonstrates our commitment to providing the best domestic mission-critical capabilities to the Canadian Navy,” said Devon Rodgers, Director Canada Programs, Lockheed Martin Canada. “This technology provides the future CSC a secure and capable platform to ensure connectivity across the fleet.”

The Integrated Communications System developed by L3Harris is essential for improving situational awareness, operational efficiency, and safety on RCN vessels. It aligns perfectly with the ships’ primary missions, boosting overall effectiveness in maritime operations. This initiative is a vital component of the Canadian NSS, marking a significant step in modernizing Canada’s naval fleet with the construction of Type 26 Global Combat Ships.
