L-3 MAS installs Wi-Fi system for CC-150 Polaris

L-3 MAS has completed the installation and certification of a Wi-Fi telecommunications system and the delivery of patient transfer units (PTUs) on the CC-150 Polaris aircraft.

The Wi-Fi system is similar to systems on other RCAF fleets and provides the crew and passengers with an Internet connection to access business networks from laptops, tablets or smart phones. L-3 upgraded the satellite communications systems and installed wireless networks for the cabin and cockpit.

The RCAF had identified the need for PTUs several years ago, but had not fully implemented the capability due to unresolved technical issues, L-3 MAS said in a press release. After signing a multi-year in-service-support contract for the CC-150 fleet in 2013, the company developed a plan to deliver the PTU capability, outfitting the aircraft to conduct medical evacuation of injured personnel.

“We are very proud to have successfully delivered and installed enabling capabilities on time and on budget for the CC-150 Polaris aircraft,” said Jacques Comtois, vice president and general manager of L-3 MAS during the Farnborough Airshow. “This accomplishment once again reflects the strength of the L-3 MAS team and its ability to find and apply innovative solutions. L-3 MAS is committed to offering the best services for this aircraft fleet and that’s exactly what we have done.”
