Strengthening Maritime Security in the Caribbean and North Atlantic

On January 26, HMCS Harry DeWolf set sail from Halifax, Nova Scotia, embarking on a six-week mission to support counter-narcotics operations in the Caribbean Sea and North Atlantic Ocean. This deployment is part of Operation CARIBBE, a collaborative effort aimed at disrupting the movement of illicit drugs and contraband between South America, the Caribbean, and North America.

“Many thanks to our families and loved ones whose continued support and sacrifice allows the sailors onboard His Majesty’s Canadian Ship Harry DeWolf to take on this operation. As the ship embarks on Operation CARIBBE, I am immensely proud of our dedicated crew. Their commitment to combating illicit trafficking and enhancing maritime security in the Caribbean is a testament to their professionalism and resolve. I have full confidence in their ability to carry out this mission with excellence,” expressed Rear-Admiral Josée Kurtz, Commander Maritime Forces Atlantic & Commander Joint Task Force Atlantic.

As a key contributor to this initiative, HMCS Harry DeWolf will join forces with the United States Coast Guard (USCG) in monitoring and intercepting suspicious maritime activity. The ship’s crew will actively engage in boarding and maritime interdiction efforts, working alongside embarked USCG Tactical Law Enforcement Team personnel, as well as allied naval assets and maritime patrol aircraft.

“As we deploy on Operation CARIBBE, I’m incredibly proud of the crew of His Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Harry DeWolf. Their professionalism, dedication, and teamwork will showcase the capabilities of both our Navy and the Harry DeWolf-class during this vital mission while demonstrating our commitment to protecting and safeguarding North America. To our families and loved ones, you remain the foundation of our success, and I thank you sincerely for your unwavering support,” conveyed Commander Jon Nicholson, Commanding Officer HMCS Harry DeWolf.

Operation CARIBBE underscores the Royal Canadian Navy’s (RCN) commitment to international security and collaboration. By participating in these counter-narcotics efforts, Canada reinforces its dedication to protecting its communities and curbing the influx of illicit substances into the country, ultimately contributing to a safer North America.
