Gatekeeper finds new Viperfish customer

Abbotsford-based Gatekeeper Systems has received a new contract for its Viperfish airborne digital recording and post mission analysis system.

The customer has not been identified but the contract is valued at approximately US$120,000. However, Viperfish recorders are currently in use on the United States Air Force AC-130 gunships, Royal Canadian Navy Sea King helicopters, and with French Navy.

The high-resolution digital recording platform stores long range sensor system information, such as infrared, video and radar, GPS coordinates, operator or mission identification, as well as on/off sensors such as weapons, sirens and emergency lights. All data is synchronized with time and date and recording to solid-state storage drives designed into the recording system.

“The recent terrorist attack in Ottawa is an indication that Canadian’s are vulnerable at anytime, anywhere. We must support our defence forces in order to protect and preserve our way of life,” said president and CEO Doug Dyment in a news release. “I’m pleased that the recent procurement process for this defense contract had over 10 defence contractors bidding Gatekeeper’s products. This is a key indicator that our military and law enforcement-designed security products are getting wide spread visibility within the defense industry, and we look forward to expanding this segment of our business.”
