Public Works and Governments Services Canada has awarded Cassidian a €50 million programme to equip Royal Canadian Air Force airfields with surveillance radars. Cassidian will provide seven of its ASR NG wide area surveillance radars to improve flight safety and enhance the integration of military aviation and civilian air traffic.
“Our ASR NG guarantees outstanding performance so that even very small objects such as ultra-lightweight aircraft or even flocks of birds can be reliably detected and classified,” said Simon Jacques, head of Cassidian Canada, adding that specific data processing software allows the ASR to track air traffic even in the shadow of windfarms.
The ASR NG also comprises the secondary radar MSSR 2000 I, which is able to identify over a thousand aircraft at a time.
Cassidian is partnered with Lockheed Martin Canada on the project.
