C-130J training amended

The federal government has amended a 2009 contract with Montreal-based CAE to align training with upgrades to the CC-130J aircraft.

Although the RCAF just accepted the final of 17 J-model Hercules from Lockheed Martin in May 2012, the air force is improving navigation, communication, and maintenance capabilities for the fleet. As a result, the original contract with CAE – which included a full suite of CC-130J training systems from flight simulators to flight training devices, procedures trainers, and courseware for the Air Mobility Training Centre at 8 Wing Trenton – has been amended to upgrade the training environment as well. The training is being delivered by military instructors with 426 Squadron.

“To ensure the fidelity of the training environment, all training devices and courseware need to be examined, and in some cases fully developed,” the government said in a press release. “Lesson plans, publications, training devices, and spares will be updated to match the fleet upgrades.”

The amendment is estimated to be worth $32.5 million.
