Booming business for Canadian built LAVs

General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada has been awarded a USD$24 million contract to produce 13 Light Armored Vehicles (LAV-A2) for the U.S. Marine Corps. The LAV-A2 is an eight-wheeled vehicle that can operate on land and water. It is equipped with enhanced armor protection and an automatic fire-suppression system for crew protection, as well as a robust suspension for mobility. The Marine Corps has ordered 253 LAV-A2 vehicles since 2007.

The vehicles will be produced at GDLSC’s already busy facility in London. Deliveries are scheduled for 2014

Earlier this week, GDLSC awarded two subcontracts for the Canadian Army’s Light Armoured Vehicle III Upgrade Project.

Government officials were in Milton, Ontario, home of Parker Hannifin Canada, to announce a $3.04 million subcontract for pumps and hydraulic motors to be integrated with the LAV III power pack and air conditioning systems. Parker Hannifin Canada has been working with General Dynamics Land Systems – Canada for over 15 years. A day alter, they were at the Toronto facilities of Qualified Metal Fabricators to confirm a $3.98 million subcontract for bracket, cover and shroud assemblies to be integrated with the vehicle chassis and power pack in the newly designed hull.

The $1.064 billion LAV III upgrade project, one of four Family of Land Combat Vehicle programs, will modernize a portion of the existing fleet to enhance protection, mobility and tactically agility.
