BluMetric Environmental Inc., a prominent Ottawa-based environmental consulting and engineering firm specializing in cleantech solutions, has announced a significant milestone. The company has secured a contract to provide a permanent, turnkey water pre-treatment and purification system to a remote First Nations community in British Columbia.

This $830,000 contract marks BluMetric’s first installation of a fixed water purification system in a remote community, addressing a critical need for safe and clean drinking water. The company will deliver a comprehensive Mission Ready Water solution, which includes a potable water pre-treatment and purification system capable of processing 199 cubic meters of water per day. Alongside this, BluMetric will also handle the system’s commissioning and provide training for local operators.

“We are excited to play our part in ensuring First Nations communities have access to safe and reliable drinking water”, said Scott MacFabe, CEO of BluMetric. “Historically, we have had great success deploying agile units with the Canadian military and this will be our first foray into a fixed installation for a remote population. We look forward to helping other remote communities without access to this essential resource. Our belief is that decentralized water treatment will continue to be a growing trend as we build more resilient infrastructure.”

BluMetric’s expertise in water purification has been proven through the successful deployment of over 50 similar systems for the Canadian Armed Forces, which have been used in various challenging environments around the world.

The Mission Ready Water system is particularly noteworthy for its design that minimizes operator intervention. Key features include remote support capabilities, a self-cleaning filtration system that reduces the need for consumables, and a modular design that allows for cost-effective expansion. These innovations are designed to ensure high operational uptime, which is essential for preventing the water boil advisories that frequently plague remote communities.

The system is scheduled for delivery and commissioning during the 2025 fiscal year, marking a new chapter in BluMetric’s efforts to bring reliable clean water solutions to underserved areas.
