Army seeks vehicle satcom

The federal government is seeking bids for mobile satellite communication terminals for army vehicles.

The mobile satellite communication terminals, referred to as Satellite Communications on the Move (SOTM), will allow army vehicles to communicate with their tactical headquarters or command posts via satellite and maintain that communication while they are moving.

According to an RFP released this week, the SOTM, which falls under the army’s Land Command Support System Life Extension Project, an integrated tactical communication system that supports army-wide command and control, calls for an initial quantity of 110 mobile Satcom terminals, 5 transportable Satcom terminals and associated logistics support with options to procure up to 106 additional mobile Satcom terminals and 3 transportable Satcom terminals.

The defence inudstry was brief on the project in June 2012 and was able to comment on the planned content of the RFP and the draft requirement document. A bidders’ conference will be held on December 3, 2013.
