Alenia continues to build Team Spartan

Alenia Aermacchi has expanded the team behind the C-27J Spartan. During DEFSEC Atlantic in Halifax last week, the company announced the addition of Esterline CMC Electronics and FLYHT Aerospace to the team that is gearing up for a competition on the Royal Canadian Air Force’s fixed-wing search and rescue program.

Team Spartan, as it is being called, already includes General Dynamics Canada and DRS Technologies Canada. Esterline CMC Electronics, based in Montreal, will provide, among other things, its TacView Portable Mission Display and its SureSight Enhanced Vision System sensor. The company is also in the running to provide the C-27J flight management system. Calgary’s FLYHT Aerospace Solutions will provide an automated flight information reporting system capable of performing aircraft data transmission, voice and text messaging, and on-demand streaming of black box data through the Iridium network.

“These competencies are critically important for successful search and rescue missions, and having this equipment on our aircraft enhances our best value FWSAR solution,” said Ben Stone, president and chief executive officer at Alenia Aermacchi North America.
