A New CEO for Seaspan Shipyards

Seaspan Shipyards recently announced the appointment of John McCarthy as CEO. This appointment, made by the Board of Directors of The Washington Companies is effective immediately. Mr. McCarthy succeeds Mark Lamarre who will be assuming a new role as President and CEO of the Washington Companies. This change follows the planned retirement of the previous President and CEO, Larry Simkins.

Having been with Seaspan Shipyards since 2018, John McCarthy in integral part of the senior leadership team. He brings to bear more than 36 years of experience in shipbuilding, repair, and overhaul as a senior leader at both American and International shipyards. McCarthy has overseen all new construction programs over the past four years as Chief Program Officer of Seaspan Shipyards. This work had been an ongoing part of Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy.

In conclusion, McCarthy said, “On behalf of the entire Seaspan Shipyards team, we thank Mark Lamarre for his outstanding leadership and the significant contributions he has made through this important period for our company. Mark has been instrumental in driving a culture of continuous improvement and putting our Shipyards on the successful trajectory we are on today. I would also like to personally thank him for his guidance and friendship and look forward to continuing to work with him in his new role.”
