Any new submarine is the product of explicit and implicit Design Intent. This presentation will explore the impact and importance of capturing and employing the full extent of the Design Intent for an already built platform to enable effective in-service support. The impact of Design Intent of the following topics will be explored: impact assessments, design, and implementations of future Engineering Changes (both capability enhancements and obsolescence replacement) including physical, functional, and non-functional integration; safety case, quality assurance, and certification; and operating cycle and maintenance philosophy.
